นกกระจอกกับแมงมุม The Sparrow and the Spider

แมงมุมหิวโซตัวหนึ่งเฝ้ามองดูนกกระจอกที่กำลังไล่จับแมลงตัวเล็ก ๆ กินเป็นอาหาร มันจึงคิดว่าใยแมงมุมของมันนั้นจะสามารถดักจับนกกระจอกเอาไว้ได้

A hungry spider sat watching a sparrow, that was hunting small insects to eat. When it had an Idea, it would use its net to catch the sparrow.

เจ้าแมงมุมเร่งชักใยให้หนาและกว้างที่สุดอย่างรวดเร็วเท่าที่จะทำได้ เพื่อหวังจะจับนกกระจอกกินเป็นอาหาร ซึ่งจะทำให้มันอิ่มหนำสำราญไปได้หลายวัน

The spider quickly spun the thickest, widest net it could make to catch the sparrow, on which it could feast for days.

เมื่อเจ้าแมงมุมสร้างตาข่ายดักจนเสร็จ นกกระจอกก็บินเข้ามาชนใยแมงมุม และบินทะลุได้อย่างง่ายดาย ทำให้ใยแมงมุมทั้งหมดขาดวิ่นลง

Soon after the spider had finished, the sparrow flew straight through the net with ease leaving it in shreds.

เมื่อเจ้าแมงมุมเห็นเช่นนั้น มันจึงกล่าวกับตนเองว่า “ข้าช่างโง่เสียจริงเชื่อว่าจะดักจับเจ้านกกระจอกได้” จากนั้นมันจึงกลับไปซ่อมแซมใยของมัน เพื่อดักจับแมลงกินเป็นอาหารตามเดิม

When the spider saw what happened it said “How foolish I am to believe that I could catch the sparrow” after that it has to work fixing It’s net to catch insects as usual.

นิทานเรื่องนี้สอนให้รู้ว่า อย่าพยายามทำในสิ่งที่เกินกำลังความสามารถของตนเอง Do not attempt to do something beyond your own abilities.
