นิทานเรื่อง หนูในหีบ (The Mouse in the Chest)

หนูตัวหนึ่งเกิดและอาศัยอยูในหีบใส่ของ โดยที่ไม่เคยก้าวขาออกไปจากหีบใบนี้เลย และจะกินอาหารที่แม่บ้านนำมาเก็บกักตุนไว้ในหีบเท่านั้น

A mouse was born and lived live in a chest. It never stepped foot outside the chest at all and would only eat fhe food that the housewife stored in the chesf.

อยู่มาวันหนึ่ง ขณะที่เจ้าหนูกำลังเล่นสนุกอยู่นั้น มันได้ปีนป่ายสูงกินไปจนเกิดพลัดตกจากหีบมากกองอยู่บนพื้น

One day, while playing, the mouse climbed too high, and fell outside of the chest onto the floor.

เจ้าหนูตกใจและหวาดกลัว จึงรีบวิ่งลนลานไปมาข้างๆ หีบใส่ของ เพื่อหาทางกลับเข้าไปในนั้น จนกระทั่งมันวิ่งไปสะดุดกับเนยชิ้นหนึ่ง ที่ตกอยู่บนพื้น

The mouse shocked and afraid s it ran frantically back and forth beside the chest to fine a way back into it, until it ran into a piece of butter that had fallen on the floor.

เพราะไม่อาจทนต่อหิวได้ เจ้าหนูจึงกินเนยแข็งชิ้นเล็กนั้น และเมื่อมันได้ชิมแล้ว มันจึงร้องตะโกนขึ้นว่า “ข้าช่างโง่เขลาเสียจริง ที่คิดว่าหีบใส่นั้นมีอาหารที่วิเศษที่สุดในโลก” จากนั้นมันจึงกินเนยแข็งที่แสนอร่อยจนหมด และไม่คิดจะกับเข้าไปในหีบอีกเลย

Out of hunger the mouse ate a small piece of the butter and when he tasted it he exclaimed, ‘’i was so foolish to think my chest had the best food in the world’’ The mouse continued to eat the butter until it was all gone, and never thought of returning to the chest again.
