นิทานอีสป (Aesop) เรื่อง กบและวัว

An Ox came down to a reedy pool to drink. As he splashed heavily into the water, he crushed a young Frog into the mud.

วัวตัวหนึ่งลงมาที่สระน้ำเพื่อดื่มน้ำ เมื่อเขากระโดดลงไปในน้ำ เขาเหยียบกบตัวเล็ก ๆ ลงไปในโคลน

The old Frog soon missed the little one and asked his brothers and sisters what had become of him.

กบแก่พบว่าลูกตัวน้อยของมันหายไป จึงถามพี่น้องของมันว่าลูกตัวน้อยของมันไปไหน

“A great big monster,” said one of them, “stepped on little brother with one of his huge feet!”

“สัตว์ประหลาดตัวใหญ่” หนึ่งในนั้นพูด “เหยียบน้องชายคนเล็กด้วยเท้าอันใหญ่โตของมัน!”

“Big, was he!” said the old Frog, puffing herself up. “Was he as big as this?”

“ตัวใหญ่!” กบเฒ่าพูดพลางพองตัวขึ้น “เขาใหญ่ถึงเพียงนี้เชียวหรือ”

“Oh, much bigger!” they cried.

“โอ้ ใหญ่กว่านั้นมาก!” พวกเขาส่งเสียง

The Frog puffed up still more.

กบพองขึ้นอีก

“He could not have been bigger than this,” she said. But the little Frogs all declared that the monster was much, much bigger and the old Frog kept puffing herself out more and more until, all at once, she burst.

“เขาไม่สามารถใหญ่กว่านี้ได้” เธอกล่าว แต่กบตัวน้อยต่างบอกว่าสัตว์ประหลาดตัวนั้นใหญ่กว่ามาก และเจ้ากบตัวแก่ก็พองตัวออกมามากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ จนกระทั่งตัวมันระเบิดออกมาในคราวเดียว
